Sam Wang

Writes TestedHost. Sam Wang is a pen name.

This is a pen name, and that is stated on purpose

“Sam Wang” is a pen name. The person writing under it builds and operates this site. Nothing on this site is attributed to a qualification that does not exist, and no article invents an observation that was never made — but the name is not a legal name and this page will not pretend it is.

Disclosing a pen name is the difference between a pen name and a fake identity. Plenty of useful technical writing is published this way; what makes it dishonest is not the name, it is the borrowed credential. So there is none here.

What I actually do here

  • I build and run this site end to end: the Astro static build, the Cloudflare Pages deployment, the Cloudflare DNS zone that resolves the domain, the GitHub Actions pipeline that ships it, and the caching and header rules in front of it.
  • I read the primary documentation before writing about it — the provider’s own policy pages, pricing pages and changelogs, not other people’s summaries of them.
  • I keep the articles current. When a provider changes a limit or a price, the article that depended on it gets corrected and re-dated.

Background

Close to two decades in digital production and operations — the operational end of it: getting things live, keeping them live, and being the person who has to read the terms carefully before anything gets signed. That is a working habit more than a credential, and it is the honest reason this site leads with documentation instead of opinions.

What I am not

This part exists because the omission of it is what makes hosting content untrustworthy.

  • Not a hosting-industry insider. I have not worked for a host, a CDN or a registrar, and I have no early access to anyone’s roadmap.
  • Not running a test lab. One site, not a bench of servers. Deployment and DNS notes come from that one site; hosting-plan analysis comes from published documentation and is labelled as such.
  • Not a professional benchmarker. Where an article touches performance, it is about what the metrics mean for a static site like this one, not a ranked shootout of ten providers.

Why a pen name

This is a one-person side project, not a company. Keeping a personal name off it keeps it that way. The trade-off is real — a pen name is less accountable than a real name, and the correction policy on the About page is how that gap gets closed: anything wrong gets fixed in public, with a date on it.

Working standards

  • Every factual claim that rests on a provider’s documented behaviour links to that document, and articles end with a Sources list.
  • Prices carry the date they were checked.
  • Inference is labelled as inference.
  • Affiliate relationships are disclosed on the page, not only in the footer — which programmes the site belongs to, and the fact that belonging to one is not the same as having bought or used the product.
  • No paid placements, no sponsored posts, and no removing a finding in exchange for a partnership.
